There are competitive eating contests and there are WTF eating contests. We’re putting this firmly in the latter category. The Sheriff’s Office in Broward County says 32-year-old Ben Archbold died shortly after eating an untold number of live cockroaches (and worms) during a bug-eating contest Friday night at Ben Siegel Reptile Store north of Miami. Archbold started to feel ill shortly after being declared the winner, and collapsed in front of the store. He died later at a local hospital. No other contestants felt ill afterward. Store owner Ben Siegel said Archbold had intended to sell the grand prize — a python — to a friend who had driven him to the contest.
